For Wesley Rice, Oswego Industries has been more than just a workplace—it’s been a place of purpose, growth, and community. Since joining the organization in 1991, Wesley has built a legacy of hard work, mentorship, and advocacy, especially for the deaf community.

Wesley’s journey began with uncertainty, but quickly transformed into a fulfilling career. Over the years, he’s worked on everything from assembling shirts and bags to mentoring new employees. He’s embraced every challenge with determination and pride.

As a deaf employee, Wesley has experienced firsthand the importance of inclusion and support. He credits Oswego Industries for providing interpreters, job coaches, and a welcoming environment that allowed him to thrive. His story is a testament to what’s possible when accessibility and opportunity go hand in hand.

“I very much enjoy working here. It’s an awesome place. They help people. If I need help, they help me. And I also do that. Because sometimes some of the jobs are very difficult… But that’s why I come here. I like it.”

Wesley’s impact reaches beyond his own work. He dreams of welcoming more deaf individuals into the workforce and hopes to mentor them before retiring. “I do wish there were more deaf people here,” he says. “I could teach the deaf workforce… They could be just as busy as I’ve been for the last 33 years.”

As he looks ahead to retirement, Wesley remains focused on leaving a legacy of inclusion, hard work, and compassion. “I want people to remember me… as one that helped everyone here, helped train people, was willing to work in any department with the need.”
